Punta Azul, your gateway to Blue Lagoon

Ahh Pagudpud, one of the nice places here in the Philippines that I want to visit again especially its Blue Lagoon beach. Pagudpud is a beautiful place north of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, and is known for its two white sand beaches, Saud and Maira-ira or commonly known as Blue Lagoon.

On a good day, Blue Lagoon is known for its calm and peaceful waters

Blue Lagoon is not your typical beach with resorts lining up the shore and parties popping up at night. The resorts are not on the beach itself so it is a very private and serene place. There are only three resorts (as of this writing) around the area and it’s still a 5 - 10 minutes walk to the beach.

PUNTA AZUL

The newest resort near Blue Lagoon is Punta Azul. It was built as a rest house but the owners decided to open it to the public so that they can also enjoy Blue Lagoon.

puntazul

The resort opened last June only is made up of three houses with two floors except for the one on the left. Here’s the set up for each building.

Left building - 1 floor

  • 2 doors that leads to 2 double rooms each (4 rooms total)
  • Each room has its own bathroom

Middle building (at the back) - 2 floors

  • 1 door leads to 4 double rooms
  • 1 door leads to 2 double rooms and a deluxe room (family) upstairs
  • Each room has its own bathroom
  • Deluxe room has a bathtub
  • Kitchen and living room
  • 7 rooms total (1 is deluxe)

Right building - 2 floors

  • Composed of two separate houses
  • Each house has 2 double rooms and 1 deluxe room upstairs
  • 1 double room downstairs
  • Each room has its own bathroom
  • Deluxe rooms have a bathtub
  • Each room upstairs has a patio
  • Kitchen and living room
  • 8 rooms total (2 are deluxe)

back All rooms are air-conditioned and all bathrooms have hot and cold shower.

Room rates per day ranges from P2,000 to P5,000 (depending on the season). Cash payment only.

Think of the place as a big vacation house where you have to share an outside door to get inside your room. The owners are still deciding whether they will allow the guests to use the kitchen.

From Punta Azul, you can walk to Blue Lagoon which is only around 200 meters away.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Bangka Ride
  • Pagudpud Tour to the following places: Bangui Windmills, Saud White Beach, Kabigan Falls, Agua Grande, Patapat Viaduct Brigde, Burgos Lighthouse, White Rocks, Mountain Resort

HI CALVIN. Do you know how far punta azul is from kapuluan. were planning to have a beach wedding and were looking at kapuluan but they can only accommodate 38 people max. How about punta azul do they have wedding packages.? Im wondering if it’s near kapuluan so I could house my otehr guests in punta azul. Thanks.

Do they allow their kitchen to be used already.

calvin: wow beach wedding! that’s very nice! punta azul is nearer to blue lagoon than kapuluan but they’re only about 5 minutes walking distance apart. i’m pretty sure you can arrange to rent the whole building or even the whole place tapos they would allow you to use the kitchen. i don’t think they have a wedding package because they’re fairly new so contact them na lang.

just make sure na kasya yung mga cars sa parking lot sa blue lagoon unless magpapark yung ibang guest sa resort then just walk towards blue lagoon.

Punta Azul is not that far away from Kapuluan. You will find out that Punta Azul comes first before you reach Kapuluan.

During our grand opening last June 21,2008, we have 500 visitors. Tables/chairs used were all set up by our caterer who own them. The sound system we used was rented out as well. As of now, our place is just like a condo type suitable for family vacation. But the patios are good place to set up wedding tables since these are huge.

What is your plan? Use the whole place or accommodate only extra ones from Kapuluan. Are you going to cater your own food or you want me to recommend the one we used? These guys are pro and they wore white uniforms just like in a hotel.

Please respond so that I can discuss this with my partners what is the best way to handle this for you.

Watch out for the coming TV show of Trip Na Trip featuring Blue Lagoon on August 15, 2008. We are hoping they will show our very own Punta Azul Beach Resort.

hi, I’m planning to go to pagudpud this coming Sept 25 -27 and have a 3 day and 2 night stay. I wanna know how much will it cost me and if there is any promo package (tour in pagudpup) for 2 persons.

calvin: Hi Dywin, thanks for dropping by. Where are you planning to stay in Pagudpud? If you’re going to consider Punta Azul, you might wanna call them up and ask for their current rates. It’s non-peak season so you would probably get a good deal. Ask them also for a discount if you’re gonna hire them for the Pagudpud tour.
It would be cheaper if you don’t mind hiring a tricycle to tour you. Last time we went there it’s Php500 for the whole afternoon tour of Pagudpud.

  7. Dion says:

    Hi Darwin,

Since you are a friend of my nephew, we will give you a discounted rate of Php 2,800 per day or a total of Php 5,600 for 3 days and 2 nights inclusive of 2 complimentary breakfast.

About the tour, as Calvin suggested, the cheapest way to go is the tricycle. If you want to go other places other than Pagudpud, you can ask Harold Pedronan when you are there because that will be a different charge. We cannot quote you on the package tour at this time because we are still in the process of determining what is a reasonable price for that.

    Hi Calvin,
First of all thank you for your site because it really helped a lot during my planning stage on our vacation in Pagudpdd.
We had our vacation in pagudpud in Punta Azul last Aug13. We had a wonderful & enjoyable stay in their resort! Kuya Harold & Ate Lanie Pedronan make sure that our stay in Blue Lagoon will be memorable & hassle-free. Not only are the Room rates cheap & affordable, but you will experience the warmth hospitality of those in-charge of the place. It’s like staying in your own vacation house! The rooms are perfectly situated a few steps from the beach itself. From our room, you can catch sight of the blue lagoon-it’s pristine waters & white sand. I remember awakening from my slumber past 2am, was awed by the sound of the splashing waves and the breeze of air, that i have to wake-up my boyfriend from his sleep! The sounds we missed from our everyday life in the city.
Our vacation is super stress free. Everything is provided by Punta Azul. From airport transfer, breakfast (dinner can also be provided, but you will have to inform them ahead) to touring pagudpud. Nothing to worry on touring pagudpud because Kuya Harold knows all the tourist’s spot and can take you there.
I highly recommend for those planning to stay in Pagudpud, to book now in Punta Azul. You will definitely enjoy your stay there. WE DID! =)

calvin: I’m glad you enjoyed your vacation. It’s really relaxing in PAgupud especially in Blue LAgoon. Hope we could return there soon!

    Hola Calvin,

Good to know you had a great experience in Pagudpud. Mine was the complete opposite. We went there late 90s and stayed at Saud resort, which was overpriced and owned by the mayor of Pagudpud back then. Had an extremely PAINFUL encounter with a jellyfish, which made my leg swell and which had me unable to wear pants for 2 weeks. Add to that, beachwater temp was too cold, and locals kept telling us to watch out for undercurrents as several people have reportedly drowned or went missing. That Pagudpud experience is enough to last me a lifetime.

calvin: sayang naman. maling season kayo pumunta. hehehe. kami rin di nakaswim kasi maalon and malamig. we just enjoyed the sights and the peacefulness of blue lagoon.
