Not 2 months have passed since the last public transportation fare increase and we’re looking at another one this week. NEDA just approved the jeepney, bus and taxi fare increase as proposed by the LTFRB which will take effect probably Thursday or Friday this week.

Here’s the breakdown of the minimum fare:

• Jeepney - from P8.00 to P8.50
• Ordinary bus - from P9.00 to P10.00
• Air-conditioned bus - from P11.50 to P12.50
• Taxi - additional P10 to the fare (not added to flag down rate to reduce the cost of calibration for taxi owners)

Sigh, kawawa na kaming commuters. Can’t blame the poor drivers though. I think it’s safe to expect another fare increase after 2 months. We should really have a program that will allow drivers to acquire electric jeeps easily.
