It seems a memory leak happened to my site so my hosting company had to shut it down or it will bring down the other sites on the same server. They’re still trying to fix it so I’m back at WordPress for the time being.
Anyway, I hope they’ll fix it soon. I’ll transfer future posts once the site’s fixed.
Episode 4 has a lot of driving involved using an automatic transmission car so no problem for our privileged racers. However, map-reading skills is very important or they can simply hire and follow taxis, bring in local passengers or just ask from the police.
Here we go.
Not a 24-hour Airport
From Hue, Vietnam, teams must fly to Taipei, Taiwan and drive to the Red Pavillion for their clue. Teams left for the airport at around 2 AM but it opens at 6 AM so everybody started on equal footing.
Ida and Tania didn’t want to sleep outside the dark airport like the others so they chose to check in a nearby hotel. Anyway, everybody was still able to board the same plane to Taipei via Ho Chi Minh first thing in the morning.
Hi guys, you might be wondering why there are no posts as of late. I’m in the process of moving this whole blog into a new host. It’s not that easy but hopefully I’ll be able to finish it by tomorrow. Transferring is a pain so if you’re planning on having your own domain and hosting, I suggest you start early when you still have a few posts.
Woohoo! It’s the beginning of The Amazing Race Asia once again. Something to look forward to on Thursday nights. Just like last season, I will try my best to post recaps on each leg of the race for the benefit of those without AXN and can’t wait for their site to update its episodes.
Here we go.
The first leg of the race took place in Thailand. After a brief introduction by host, Allan Wu, the racers quickly went to their packs for their first clue. If you want to famiiarize yourself with the teams, click here.
A Bug’s Life
The first task is for the racers to make their way to Khao San Road and look for a food stand where they have to finish two bowls of assorted fried bugs, frogs and scorpions.
The first team to finish the task were brother and sister, Henry and Bernie, followed shortly by the Beauty Queens, Pailin and Natalie then by Geoff and Tisha. After a lot of puking, all teams finished with Niroo and Kapil, the father and son tandem being the last.
If you’ve been invited to be on Oprah for the second time this year you know you’re someone special. That’s what happened to our very own Charice Pempengco who’s dream came true thanks to Oprah and David Foster.
The first part is a brief background on Charice and her participation on David Foster’s live concert in Last Vegas last May. You’ll see Charice having fun with Josh Groban and Michael Buble backstage. She was also personally invited by Andrea Bocelli to sing with him in Italy to celebrate his birthday.
On the second part of the video, one of her dreams finally came true. After singing My Heart Will Go On with David Foster on the piano, Oprah had Celine Dion call in. She asked Charice if she would like to sing a duet with her on her concert in Madison Square Garden next week. Check it out:
Heavy rains hit Metro Manila the whole day and we got stuck at home since by the time we’re about to leave, areas around our office were already flooded. So we decided to stay and work from home instead.
Not much work for me today so I was able to watch CJ7 on the PC. It is a movie produced, directed and co-written by Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, God of Cookery, etc.). It also stars Stephen Chow and this brilliant kid, Jiao Xu. It doesn’t focus on Chow but instead on the kid who did a very great job on this film.
The story is about a father and son relationship dealing with poverty. Chow is a construction worker and his son Dicky, is having a hard time dealing with other students from school. You see, his father enrolled him in a private school so he’s the only poor kid there.
While browsing in a junkyard for a pair of sneakers that he could give to his son, Mr. Chow came across a weird looking toy. The toy turned out to be a fuzzy alien that became Dicky’s pet and friend (Lilo and Stitch anyone?). He named it CJ7 in reference to the robot pet of the rich kid at school called CJ1. This alien seems to have powers that could help Dicky in school, or so he thought.
It’s a very family oriented film complete with values and moral lessons that any kid and parent could enjoy, not the typical Stephen Chow movies that we’re used to. Still, there are lots of funny scenes that had me laughing. You could also see some of his friends and reference to his past movies like Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle.
Verdict: 3.5 out of 5 stars. It’s a nice movie to pass away time and I would recommend it to families with small kids. Look for the english-dubbed version by the way.
It’s been a while since I last read a book. After I got my PSP, my Palm Zire went into dust-collecting mode. It’s the only gadget I use to read books that I download off the internet.
Fortunately, I was able to borrow a couple of nice books from my mother-in-law last week. But unfortunately, I was able to finish both in a week and returned it back.
First book was The Afghan by Frederick Forsythe. It’s a very nice fiction that tells about the war on terror. It gave a nice background on the Gulf War (Hussein) as well as the War on Iraq (Bin Laden).
I understood how the Taliban came to be and even the muslim terrorists here in the Philippines were a critical plot to the story. It seems that Al Qaeda terrorists are funding the Abu Sayyaf to be a safe haven for pirates from Malaysia and Indonesia. Hmmm, is there some truth in that?
Next book is one of the newer series of fiction from James Patterson. He’s one of my favorite authors and all his books seems to be always on the bestseller list.
Co-authored with Michael Ledwidge, Step On a Crack tells a story of a detective left with 10 adopted kids by his wife who just died. Meanwhile, a group of hostage takers hi-jacked the funeral of the First Lady in New York. Among the hostages were the president, mayor, and a lot of A-list celebrities. How did they do it? How did they manage to escape? Read the book to find out. It’s a real page turner.
Now I’m out of books. I’m thinking of buying a digital book reader instead. Or I could just stick to my Palm Zire. To all book lovers out there, would you consider buying a digital book reader?
